We made a new site --> Here's the link

First off, I am EXTREMELY sorry for not updating regularly.
It was a busy end-of-the-year, and I couldn't get around to this.
Announcements will be posted, but sermons will take some time.

Happy New Year! Wow, it's 2011 already.
We hope that God will have many blessings for you this year.
Here is the verse to know and memorize for January:

"So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."

Winter Term Calendar
After service on Sunday, be sure to pick up a calendar.
It outlines what's to come for January through April.
Always good to have when you want to know what's happening.

HEAL (early morning prayer)
...continues this Saturday at 8:30am. Come start your day with prayer.

OASIS (small groups)
A new term will be beginning on January 21st.
Please note that sign-ups will close at the end of this month.

Membership Class
The next one will be on January 22nd, starting at 9am.
Information on how to sign-up will be updated next week.

Prayer Request Cards
Whenever you're at church, feel free to fill out one of these cards.
Then people can read them and pray for your requests.
Let's pray for each other, and build up our community.

Winter Retreat!!
From Dec. 28-30. We'll be going to Fair Havens Retreat Centre.
The price is set at $95. Be sure to register!!
Ride update: 2 church vans PLUS a bus (holds 48 people)
The retreat will be about "Finding Contentment in God's Will for your life",
with guest speaker, Prof. Jim Christie.

Jubilation (our Christmas Banquet!)
Date: Thursday, Dec. 23rd
The price is only $15 (or $10 if you bring 5 non-perishable food items, which
will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank)
It will be at church, so don't worry about the location!
See you there.

EM Skating event - Dec. 30
Enjoy ice-skating? We sure do!
On Dec. 30 (a Thursday), come out to the Angus Glen Community Centre.
It will be from 7 - 10pm. Come enjoy the ice.

Winter Retreat!
From Dec. 28-30 (Tues. - Thurs.)
So registration started this past Sunday (Dec. 5), and will continue.
The cost is set at $95. It shouldn't be too much, right folks?
BUT NOTE that the first 22 people to sign-up and pay will have
guaranteed rides in the church vans.

The retreat will have guest speaker, Prof. Jim Christie. He will be speaking
about "Finding Contentment in God's will for your life."

Not to worry folks! It will just be pushed back a week.
The new date is Nov. 14, starting at 4:30 pm in the gym.

Ministry Retreat - Oct. 29-30th
This is for all those people on ministry teams.
Registration ends THIS Sunday, Oct. 24th. Cost is $45
We'll be going to Fair Havens Retreat Centre.
We leave at 5pm from church on Fri., and returning at 8pm on Sat.

Womens' Retreat - Nov. 5-6
Registration seems to have started at $40.
However, after Oct. 24th, the price will go up to $50 (not too bad).
The theme is "Recovering our Call as Women of God".

Beach Day - THIS SATURDAY!
Food, sports, and all at the beach. What more could you ask for?
If you plan to come, here's some info you need to know.

Either:
- Meet at the 42 Bus platform at Finch by 12pm
OR
- Go straight to Woodbine Beach / Ashbridges Bay by 1:30pm
(Near the west end of the beach, at the washrooms by the volleyball nets)

For those wondering, our beach day will end around 6pm.

Orphanage project. For the construction phase, EM needs to raise
$85,000. KM has already met their target, but we are nowhere near
this amount. We are recruiting to form a team to plan fund-raising

The location should be just a bit south of Yonge & Steeles.

Ski / Snowboard Trip - THIS WEDNESDAY (Feb. 17)!!
Yes, the 3-day trip was canceled.
But in its place is the one-day trip to...Blue Mountain!
Here's what you need to know:

Prices

If you need ONLY LIFT TICKET - $30 (taxes included)
If you need ONLY EQUIP. RENTAL - $28 (taxes included)
If you only need a RIDE (you have your own equip. & lift ticket) - $5

If you need BOTH LIFT TICKET and RENTAL - $55

Some important things you really should remember:
- Meet at church at 8:30 am SHARP
- Eat breakfast at home before you come
- For lunch, either bring lunch money or pack your own
- Bring your student I.D. (or the prices above won't be valid)

Missions Seminar
There will be a seminar this Saturday starting at 10 am in the EM chapel.
This week's speaker will be Craig Mallow from Cambodia.

Dodgeball Tournament

Missions Month Features
As you know, February is Missions Month here at YN.
Our Sunday speakers will address aspects of how we can be factors in God's plan for this world.
But not only Sundays are reserved for this purpose.
On Saturdays, Missions Seminars will be offered here in the EM Chapel
from 10am-12pm.
The seminars will be led by
- Professor Al Tizon (Feb 13)
- Kreg Mallow (Feb 20), and
- Kate Masson (Feb 27).

Timothy Project
The Timothy Project will take place during Lent (Feb. 17 - Easter Monday)
There will be an info session next Sunday after service for those interested in participating.

Reading Week Ski / Snowboard Fellowship
Date: Tues. Feb. 16 - Thurs. Feb. 18.
We will be skiing & snowboarding at Sir Sam's Ski Resort,
and staying at Shalom by the Lake.
Cost: $107
(This includes two nights lodging, five meals, lift ticket, and rental)
PLEASE note: Transportation will be provided for the first 24 paid registrants.

¹Again Jesus began to teach by the lake. The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water's edge. ²He taught them many things by parables, and in his teaching said: ³"Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. ⁴As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. ⁵Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. ⁶But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. ⁷Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. ⁸Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times."
⁹Then Jesus said, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

Sorry for the late post!
I think by now if you're someone who's been following the Sunday Sermons you've come to expect these mp3s to be a few days late. I apologize for that because I know that a lot of you are away from Toronto or can't make it to church week-to-week to hear Chang's sermons in person.

I hope you all had a good new years.
I also hope that you're transition back in to your daily lives was smooth.

And yes, now we're a week in to 2010 - maybe that feeling of excitement from the new year has settled in and passed on and the new year won't really be a big thing anymore. The party's over and it's back to real life.

But there's still a lot to consider outside of our unfulfilled desires and wants.
What about the desires of God's heart?
Is 2010 the year when we start taking our minds off of ourselves and looking at the bigger picture - the picture where God is at the centre of it all?

When do we start allowing God to work in our lives?
How do we let God grow in our lives?

I don't usually write anything to accompany the Sunday Sermons that get posted here.

I wanted to say something this time because if 2010 was meant to be a year for change, then I encourage all of you to really listen to this sermon and...that's because Chang preaching God's word should encourage you better than my words.

At least for me, it has served to be a helpful reminder to take on a new attitude towards God.
I hope and pray it's the same for you.
Let's continue to start building God's kingdom instead of our own personal ones.

New Years Eve Worship + Early Morning Prayer
Please be at church by 10:45.
It will be held in the EM chapel.

ALSO, there will be two weeks of early morning prayer the start the new year. It will begin this Saturday from 7-8am.
PLEASE note that on weekdays it will begin at 6am. (Sundays aren't included)
It is encouraged that you fill out a prayer card with your prayer requests on it, and drop it off in the drop-off box in the EM foyer BEFORE the new years service.

2010 Offering Envelopes
If you haven't done so already, please pick up your new offering envelopes in the EM foyer. If they are not there or you don't have offering envelopes, please fill out a blue form found in the foyer (should have a box you can check concerning envelopes), and drop it off in the drop-off box in the foyer.

Christianity Explored
This will be a 10-week investigative course exploring who Jesus is and why He came. It starts Jan. 12, 2010.

Poiema Sheek Ku Day + EM Skating
THIS Saturday, Jan. 2, will be a Sheek Ku Day.
Come out to meet new people, play some games, and just have a relaxing and awesome time. It will start at 3pm at Pastor Chang's house.

Then after that, there is an EM skating event which starts at 8pm.
It will be at the Angus Glen Community Arena in Markham. Cost is free.
HOWEVER, you might need to bring your own skates.
Skating will be from 8-9:30pm, then Stick & Puck will be from 9:30-11pm.
